Kate Middleton's Weight Loss Plan: Was It The Dukan Diet?

Weight Loss Diet Kate Middleton's weight loss sparked a flurry of questions in the days and weeks leading up to the royal wedding. Many health experts questioned whether or not Middleton's rapid loss in pounds constituted an unhealthy diet plan. Peter Wehrwein, editor of the Harvard Health Letter, commented that if her rumored 120 pound weight on a 5'10'' frame were true, she would be labeled in the underweight category based upon a derived body mass index (BMI) of 17.2.

Nonetheless, the noticeable transformation has got many royal watchers wondering what Kate Middleton did to lose so much weight so quickly. Many have attested that Kate's weight loss is attributed to the Dukan diet, which has been popular in Europe for some time (the inventor is a French physician), and has recently migrated over to the United States as well.

The Dukan diet is in essence a modified version of the Atkins diet, with a few novel components added in. When practicing the Dukan diet, you must consume very large amounts of protein and avoid any dietary fat or heavy starch foods. That means focusing on lean meats like chicken and fish, while avoiding common staples like potatoes.

Dukan's diet differs from Atkins in that dieters are also required to consume a special kind of oat bran that is culled from oat husks. Further, dieters are expected to drink lots of water and engage in consistent, albeit moderate, exercise.

What's particularly remarkable about the Dukan diet is how unremarkable it is when you actually look at the plan itself. With the exception of consuming a lot of special oat bran, the Dukan diet plan is focused on eating lean proteins, healthy vegetables, avoiding fat and carbs, drinking water, and exercise. Those are the kinds of sensible steps that every physician in the western world endorses when it comes to weight loss; it's not likely that Kate Middleton knows anything that you or I do not.

Sure, diets like Dukan and Atkins may be a bit draconian in their emphasis on protein and their prohibition on fats and carbs. But beyond that, there's no magical secret at work here that guarantees an easy way to lose weight. Perhaps Kate Middleton's secret was simply that she followed through on a commitment to a healthier lifestyle. After all, no matter what fad diet you employ, there's one ingredient you can't forget to include--perseverance.

I am currently a wrestler in high school and weigh 125 pounds. I run 2 miles at practice and 3 miles at night. I need to lose 2-4 pounds of weight and have 3 weeks to do it. Just plain exercise isn't cutting it so I am turning to dieting. I have checked out the Grapefruit diet and do not really want to try it because it is a low carb one. Any other suggestions?
