Cranberry Power

Gout Pictures Have you ever had raw cranberries? I'm probably one of the few who like them that way, and I only get to have them during November and December. Most of the crop is processed into juice, jelly or whole cranberries.

Many people think cranberries are grown in water. It's an easy mistake to make, as most pictures of the cranberry crop shows them floating in it. That's not how they are grown, it's how they are harvested.

There are several health benefits to the cranberry. Naturally, it has some potent nutritional value, but many women like it because it can help deal with various urinary tract problems developed. While it isn't a complete cure, women have sworn by it for centuries.

There is a controversy about whether or not cranberries are good for gout. They are very acidic, which may be problematic considering gout is caused by uric acid crystals. However, many say that the berry is good for the condition.

If you want to make your dentist happy, cranberry juice just might help. It is proven to help reduce plaque buildup on your teeth. In fact, it is now being added to some mouthwash for that very reason.

Cranberries may also benefit those with stomach ulcers. As you may know, most of these ulcers are caused by a bacterium called H. pylori. Those who regularly consume cranberry juice may have a new ally against this bacterium, as it seems to help the body get rid of it.

If you like (or need) to make things from scratch, cranberries can be an interesting fruit to cook. As they heat up, you will hear popping sounds as the fruit bursts out of its skin. My favorite way to prepare cranberries includes granny smith apples, apple juice and cinnamon. The juice usually provides enough sweetening without that need for sugar. I prefer one hundred percent juice over "juice drinks" because of the sugar issue.

If you are making a cranberry dish with gout in mind, the addition of apples, cherries or other fruits may be beneficial. Cranberries are somewhat acidic, but that can be balanced by the other berries and fruits. The fruit mixture may also help balance the protein content of holiday meals, which tends to be higher than a regular dinner might have.

Whether you buy them fresh or canned, cranberries are a wonderful addition to you holiday meal. In fact, many people feel that you can't have a holiday dinner without them.
