How To Properly Display Inflatable Christmas Decorations

Inflatable Christmas DecorHow we got here, one can only guess, but for some reason we are addicted to the inflatable christmas decoration trend. After all, they're fun to look at, kids love them, the setup is easy, and they won't catch your prized rose bushes on fire. What's not to love? Well, there's plenty not to love, especially in the yards of those who have managed to turn a fun decoration that was supposed to be reminiscent of parade floats into a cheap, lazy display of an overcrowded mess. So how can you be sure that your own inflatable decorations don't make the neighbors wish they lived somewhere else this year? by adhering to the following guidelines.

First, if you have a small yard, or no yard at all, just forget it altogether. The worse trend I have witnessed thus far is when apartment dwellers try to set giant christmas inflatables on their tiny patios. It's really just sad. Give it up. Christmas inflatables are meant to take up a great amount of space, so unless you have a substantial yard, just leave it alone. Cramming inflatables into compact spaces makes them look bulky and out of place rather than regal and fun.

Next, try to understand how Christmas inflatables are supposed to look in your yard and how they should figure into your display. This can be a bit tricky. They are so large and cartoon-like that it can be hard to balance them, but it is possible. First, isolate your Christmas inflatable to some extent. If you must have one, then make it a key part of your display by either centering or strategically placing it in an area of its own. Don't surround it with Christmas lights, reindeer, and a baby Jesus. Let it stand at least ten feet away from the other the major decor so it does not look as if you are attempting to blend a giant Frosty with the Nativity.

The third item on the checklist here is to limit the amount of Christmas inflatables that you incorporate into your yard display. Unless you are in a contest to see whose yard can look the worst, there really is no need for thirty seven Scooby Doo inflatables with Santa hats on their heads. One or two is plenty. They are not to be treated like Christmas lights, where the point is to put up as many as you can for a brilliant display. We put up dozens of strings of lights because they're small. You can't really get the effect unless you string quite a few across the house and lawn. Christmas inflatables are enormous. They stand out on their own.

Finally, understand that inflatable Christmas decorations are really meant for children. Whether you have children or not makes no difference, as all children that pass them can enjoy them, but try to resist the urge to put them up for yourself. Ok, we all indulge ourselves with a few childlike Christmas traditions, such as putting out a Santa key or taking in A Charlie Brown christmas, but we don't have to display our little childish tendencies out in the front yard for all to see. You're a grown up. Balance out your Christmas inflatables with a few tasteful pieces, such as a lighted wreath or a few regal red bows. Also, keep in mind that mixing colored lights with inflatables makes the scene look especially childish. If you would prefer to have a more adult yard display at Christmas with just a few whimsical touches for fun, add only blue or white lights to the scene and limit anything that could have come straight from a Disney movie. This way, you'll be prepared for children coming to admire your decorations, as well as adults coming over for that annual Christmas get together. With inflatable Christmas decorations, it's all about balance.
