Christmas And Halloween Together At Last!

Inflatable Christmas Yard OrnamentsHalloween is a week away and approaching fast. the kids are all excited they have their Halloween costumes and parties at school and of course Trick or Treating is one of their favorite things to do! We've decorated our house with pumpkins and flying ghosts - we're ready for Halloween! But while we're gearing up for things like trick or treating or Halloween parties, retailers are apparently thinking about Santa Claus.

Recently I went to a local store in my area to get a few last minute things for our Halloween costumes and to pick up some Halloween candy. I figured there might be slim pickings since it was getting so close to Halloween, but thought despite this they would still have the things that I needed. So I walked to the area of the store that previously had been stuffed with Halloween costumes and decorations...and apparently it had vanished! Instead, guess what I saw?

A giant christmas Display!

There were a ton of those inflatable christmas yard decorations, stockings, ornaments, lights, everything you could possibly need for christmas. They even had a giant artificial Christmas tree set up for display. It was fully decorated with ornaments and ribbons and lights and even had a train set and fake Christmas presents and gifts wrapped beneath it. It was quite an impressive Christmas display, but where did all of the Halloween stuff go? Afterall, Halloween is next week, Christmas is still 2 months away!

I walked around the store and found it - what had been aisles and aisles of Halloween stuff was now reduced to just one aisle. There was hardly anything left in it! Fortunately for me, they did still have what I needed, but it really made me upset that this store clearly had its priorities messed up when it came to the holidays!

It wasn't just the one part of the store that seemed to be ready for Christmas either. I went to a few different departments to pick up other stuff. Down their main aisle they had things like Christmas kitchen towels and tablecloths. In another aisle, they had Christmas gifts all lined up with a display of boxed perfume and bath sets. Another aisle displayed the food gift sets of hot chocolate, candy, popcorn, and other gift sets. The electronics department showed off their latest high def TV's as excellent Christmas presents. As I walked past the sporting goods section I noticed a large display of hunting gifts.

Even when I was checking out I noticed that instead of having the Halloween stuff at the end of the aisles, they had replaced it with more Christmas stuff. I noticed on the cashier a pin that read "Ask Me About Christmas Lay-A-Way!"

I understand that retailers are probably concerned about their Christmas sales this year. Afterall, Christmas is when most of them make their best earnings and the economy hasn't been in the best of shape. But it really bothers me when they rush into Christmas and it's not even Halloween yet! Poor Thanksgiving doesn't even get any attention anymore - everyone associating that with the biggest shopping day of the year and standing in line in front of stores for hours waiting for that special sale.

What do you think? Does it make you mad too when you see Christmas stuff out for Halloween? Or are you like some people I know who have had their Christmas shopping done since August?
