SEO Keyword Tags - Why Do You Need Keyword Tags?

Nowadays, everyone involved with the amazing Internet can't do without talking about search engine optimization or SEO. and when SEO is mentioned 'tags' can't be far behind.

First, what is SEO? Search engine optimization (SEO) is considered by many to be a subset of search engine marketing, a term used to describe a process of improving the volume of traffic to a web site from search engines usually through search results. In a broad sense, SEO is marketing by understanding what people might search for online, to help them with sites offering what they are interested in finding.

What are keyword tags? Tags are relevant keywords associated with or assigned to a piece of information.

Nowadays search engines don't rely on meta keyword tags like they used to. Perhaps this is a result of further improvement from search engine gurus after finding out that a lot of smart computer savvy folks tried to "fool" the search engines by over-representing their contents. Surely, there must be a reason for this. As a result, search engines began to either ignore the keywords or find other ways to validate the keyword content. A lot have happened since the paste decade. Many more are happening each day. Nowadays, search engines consider a wide variety of factors such as page content, links to and from objective sites, e.g. news sites, and also keyword tags.

Assuming that keyword tags may not be as influential as they were once doesn't necessarily mean that they should be shelved or ignored altogether. Suggestion from the experts is that we should still make sure that along with every other option optimization technique available, meta keyword tags should still be included.

For picking meaningful keywords, here are a few simple guidelines:

Use "keywords" in all the Meta categories: title, description and keywords of a page. Again, a question of consistency - mean what you say, say what you mean, and say it consistently.

Make sure that the keywords and the actual site content are consistent. The keywords that you utilize inside meta statements should be easily found in the actual content of the web page or site.

Don't repeat terms in a meaningless way or inappropriate way - too much repetition will actually hurt you rather than help you. Don't use a term twice in a row even if you change tenses, capitalize it or set it off in quotes.

Don't try to "fool" the search engines - they are working a lot harder on foiling such attempts than you are at making them. Moreover, such attempts only reduce the meaning of keyword tags for everybody.

These days, by themselves, including keyword tags may not make a huge difference in your search engine rankings. But they can help if used properly. Used improperly, they can actually hurt your standings.

Perhaps the most basic aspect of search engine optimization marketing that you need to learn is, in fact, the use of keywords. Tools such as word tracker is excellent as it will help give you a good idea of the keywords you should use in your website in order to improve your search engine rankings. With the help of these simple tools, you can increase your exposure and improve your sales. And as long as you are ever conscious of your engine rankings and ratings, you need keyword tags.
