Good hose reel, but there are some things to be aware of…

I’m fairly happy with this hose reel. I have a heavy 100′ “contractor-grade” hose from one of the big-box stores and it fits easily. Winding is not hard but it does take a bit of elbow grease, especially for longer hoses. I have a few tips if you decide to buy it:

Money well spent

I am really glad I went with a hose guide that had the smart track system. After reading several reviews, I purchased this product over other cheaper reels because of the smart track system. It is so easy to reel the hose in after using it, the hose doesn’t ever tangle. I even have a few different hoses connected to each other to make one long hose, and the hose fitting goes through the opening just fine. I will probably eventually secure it to my concrete patio because I have quite a bit of hose in it and it is heavy, so when I try to pull it around the corner of my house, it kind of drags the box with it instead of it staying put.

Excellent hose reel – swivel is a great feature

I haven’t had it for very long, but so far, this is really a great hose reel. I have the Suncast auto-winding reel and that broke down as I’d hear the gears turning, but the reel would not turn, forcing me to manually turn it to reel in the hose – what a pain. I use it for a 100ft hose – I don’t see how this can be used for a 200ft hose as you’d have to reel it in perfectly in order to get all 200ft reeled in – and that can be a chore.

First one held up well.

This is my second one of these in 15 years. Not bad in my opinion for something made entirely of plastic. The handle broke on the old one the first year (very flimsy, should be solid or metal reinforced). I repaired it with metal reinforcement and acrylic resin and got another 14 years out of it. Does hold plenty of hose but let the water drain out as you reel in or you’ll tax the worm gear that guides the hose along the reel. Swivel feature is new. Good idea if it holds up.

We have gone through so many hose reels that I shuddered at having to find yet another one that would break within the first week or make it more difficult than just curling the hose by hand. What a wonderful surprise!!!!! So very easy to use, so well built (although it did arrive with a broken lid because it had been dropped by UPS). I have an injured right shoulder and elbow but can still wind the hose without any difficulty at all. The swivel feature is terrific. I don’t even have the reel “staked” down into the ground (it comes with 2 stakes hidden underneath), and it doesn’t tip over or budge, other than to swivel to present me the hose. LOVE THIS!!!!!

Good product, works better than you think

We’ve purchased several of these hosereels, and I would buy another. I took off a star because in really windy places, (like central Oklahoma for instance), it’s possible for the lid to be ripped off. Probably when the opening is facing the storms. Otherwise, in spite of the cheap feel to the molded plastic, these will last several years. What they need is a solid hold down clip. These are weighted so you can usually pull the hose out if you walk straight away. Now the new ones are on swivels so maybe they’ll work better. I’m pleasantly surprised by these reels and for the money are a good tool.
