How To Build Your Own Computer

In this economy, you want to get exactly what you want, as cheap as you can. So the next time you want to buy a computer, think about building one first. It saves money, and you can upgrade whatever you want. Depending on how you want to use the computer, you might max out the memory, or invest in a good CPU (Central Processing Unit). Anyways, this is how you build a computer.

First, Buy the following hardware:

  • PC Case
  • Hard Drive
  • CD Rom Drive
  • CPU (Central Processing Unit)
  • Motherboard *Make Sure The CPU can be used with the Motherboard*
  • Memory
  • Graphics Card
  • Keyboard and Mouse
  • An OS (Operating System, such as Microsoft Windows Vista)
Second, Get the following tools:
  • A Philips Head (Cross) Screwdriver
  • Flashlight (Optional)
Third, Make sure you keep all the software:
  • The OS (Operating System) *See Above*
  • The Hardware Drivers (Should come with the hardware and makes sure that all of the hardware work)
Now We Can Start To Build:
  • ***Ground Yourself by Touching an Unpainted Part of the Computer Case to remove static electricity***
  • Remove the Computer Case Lid.
  • Install the Power Supply on the hole in the Computer Case around the top left.
  • Install the CPU(Central Processing Unit)onto the motherboard. (Consult the Motherboard Manual)
  • Install the Heatsink and Fan that came with the CPU on top of the CPU. (Consult the Motherboard Manual)
  • Install the Memory into the memory slots. (Consult the Motherboard Manual)
  • Then, Install the Motherboard into the Computer Case, being careful not to bend the Motherboard.
  • There are screw holes around your computer case; line up your motherboard holes with the screw holes and screw in some screws to keep them in place.
  • Install the Hard Drive into the Hard Drive slot.
  • Install the Disk Drive into the Disk Drive Slot.
  • Install the Graphics Card into the PCI Slot.
  • Configure Master and Slaves for the Hard Drive and Disk Drives. (See Motherboard Manual)
  • Connect all of the Power Supply Wires:
    • Find the 20 pin connector (10x2), and plug it into the 20 holes on the motherboard.
    • Find the 4 pin connector (2x2), and plug it into the 4 holes on the motherboard.
    • Find any one of the other 4 pin connectors (4x1), and plug it into the holes on the Hard Drive and the Disk Drive.
    • Tie the rest of the unused pins together.
Now You can turn on the computer.Configure Your BIOS (Basic Input/ Output System)Configure Your CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor)***You can find more information about that at this website:www.computerhope.com/help/bios.htm ***Install your OS (Operating System)Then install all of your drivers, and you will have a fully operational computer!
