Four Of The Best Wireless Routers For The Average To Moderate Internet Using Houses

These days just about every home needs a wireless router. Unless the home was built in the heyday before wireless Internet was available and a network and Ethernet cables are running in virtually every room in the house, a wireless router is pretty much the easiest way to get a fast secure Internet connection virtually anywhere in and outside the house. Of course, the flip side is equipping every internet ready device on a given property with 3G air cards and unlimited service, but at $30 a month for every Internet ready device in the house that can get expensive pretty quick. Still, not all Wireless Routers are created equally. Also, knowing your connection speeds is a requirement. Buying a router that handles speeds that dwarf the basic connection speeds is akin to owning a Porsche and driving thirty miles an hour, it is just not worth the upgrade. That being said, here are four of the best Wireless Routers available:

Net Gear Wireless N Dual Band Router for Video and Gaming

This Net Gear Wireless N Dual Band Router for Video and Gaming is available at Best Buy or best buy.com for $169.99. This device allows for data transfer speeds of up to 600Mbps for ultra fast streaming of video and any online gaming activity. The dual band technology allows multiple devices to access the Internet without interference, which means one network can be dedicated to televisions and the other to computers. With live parent controls and an activity meter, keeping track of what is going on in the house at every access point is a piece of cake. Plus, it is backwards compatible in order to make upgrading a total breeze. In short, just a great router and considering the price it should be.

Linksys WRT54GLWireless G 54Mbps Broadband Router Linux Open Source Edition

For $59.99 the Linksys basic wireless router, WRT54GL, is generally the go to router of choice for many homeowners. While the 54Mbps is not exactly screaming fast, it is a quality connection that can take care of one or two Wi-Fi devices simultaneously without crippling the speed of the connection. Plus 802.11G also picks up 802.11B devices which makes this wireless router able to pick up just about every device in the home. While really a basic entry level router, it offers the ability to encrypt the network for protection and is a great choice for anyone just starting out, especially those with older home computers.

Belkin Surf Wireless Router

The Belkin Surf Wireless Router, model number F7D2301, can be found at Target for $44.99. This is another entry level router that can accommodate pretty much any basic Internet equipped house. Ideally, this router is best to support one computer wired into the router and a netbook or other simple Internet ready device, though it would perform okay for a Wii or basic Netflix service as well due to the wireless N band connection. This Belkin is maybe a step above the Linksys WRT54GL. Still for a rock bottom price, you get a rock bottom device.

Cisco Linksys E2000 Advanced Wireless N Router

The Cisco Linksys E2000 Advanced Wireless N Router is available from Best Buy or best buy.com for $129.99. This is a monster wireless router that features data transfer speeds up to 300Mbps. The LED display offers easy to read connection monitors, and the router provides great encryption options for the utmost in security. Plus, the N band wireless virtually eliminates all potential dead zones in the largest of houses. Parental controls and the ability to set up a password protected guest network help put this device at the head of the class.
